Tempo Check: KMKanDrum Tests His Meter!

Today is test day for KMKanDrum. Will I pass or will I fail miserably?

NOTE: I had never done this before so I had no idea what the outcome was going to be.

Basically, I took a song I recorded back in c.2000 called, "Detached" by my old band, FREaKS, and threw it into Logic Pro X. From there, I created a tempo map to see how good (or bad) my natural meter was.

For some context, in 2000 I was 22-years old. I had been playing basically every day for 10 years. I had already recorded two full-length albums and countless singles and EPs. I had played hundreds of live shows of varying sizes. My experience was decent for that age. You could even say it was the beginning of my peak period, playing-wise.

Need to work on your meter?

Looking for an affordable metronome?

I recommend this one from Amazon:

It has everything you need, whether practicing on the pad or on the set, and it's only $10.99 USD with Amazon Prime!

We recorded this song at Westbeach Recorders in Hollywood, CA. It is most notable for many an Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords album, e.g., most of Bad Religion's albums, NOFX, Rancid, The Offspring, Lagwagon, Strung Out, Propagandhi, etc. It was also where Pink Floyd recorded some of their "Dark Side of the Moon" stuff but under a different studio name. Needless to say, it was a top-notch studio that commanded top-notch $. So rather than try to fumble with a metronome, we went without one. We had been rehearsing, playing live, and demo-ing the songs like crazy and we knew they sounded great, whether or not it was true to the starting bpm.

So, now, here's the test! Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments section! Thank you for watching! Please subscribe for more videos :)
